From a young age fascinated by elderly people and elderly care, she worked as a nurse in several nursing homes from the age of 15. Since her Bachelor she has been trying to close the gap between research and practice of care; gaining experience in research, advising, consultancy, coaching, training and development of new programs to improve quality of life and care for the elderly in general and especially for people with dementia. Since 2012 she has been working as a 'Quality of life Coach' in a Dutch small scale living facility/nursing home with the main focus on enhancing quality of life for people with dementia and their families.
For her Master thesis she conducted qualitative research into interrelationships in a nursing home as part of a national project of the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport and the client organisation LOC, which aims to enhance the quality of care in nursing homes, relationships, the quality of life and the quality of care. Secondly, it will describe the present state of these relationships according to the different participants. Thirdly, this research will reveal which preconditions are important to establish valuable interrelationships in the nursing home as cornerstones for a high quality of care.
